Background

Problem Library is a SF based space for artists - young and old - to gather and flourish as creatives. Their mission highlights education at every stage of life. This year, for Innovative Design’s Designathon, they partnered with Problem Library to gain thoughtful insight from students about their next endeavor: Educational Television.

Prompt

Problem Library’s goal with Educational TV is to promote “slow viewing,” bringing us back to the days of PBS. A time when you could turn on a TV and automatically tune into the middle of a peaceful and informative show. Our task was twofold:

  • create a thoughtful website that reflected both Problem Library and Educational TV’s mission

  • create branding / imaging in the form of IG assets, brand guidelines, and calendars for Educational TV’s promotion

We divided the work between the two tasks and I worked on the website, specifically the events!

Results

After around 4-5 hours, lots of caffeine, feedback, and iterations, we finished our web product and branding assets! Our next task: effectively presenting our work. In a 5-minute presentation, we communicated the ethos behind our designs:

  • Celebrate curiosity

  • Embrace accessibility and public knowledge for all

  • Reignite nostalgia and channel the charm of analog TV

  • Promote slow viewing for meaningful engagement

  • Connect through shared viewing and discussion

  • Inspire a new generation of thinkers and creators

Our deliverable included justifications for our designs, branding guidelines, event flyers, IG posts, a seasonal calendar, and our website!

As a result, we won the designathon and partnered with Problem Library on this event!
